We start our day around 9:15am and travel through Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs enroute to the Mornington Peninsula. The first stop for the day is the Crittenden Estate Vineyard at Dromana. One of the first commercial vineyards on the Peninsula, their origins go back to 1984 so some of the oldest vines are producing exceptional quality fruit. After the tasting, continue through to the quirky Quealy Vineyard at Balnarring. With an interest in Italian inspired wines, their approach is a little left of centre and will leave an impression. Cheese platters will enhance the tasting.
Close by is the Stonier Vineyard in Merricks. Established in 1978 by Brian Stonier, it is one of the original vineyards that enjoys a stellar reputation for their chardonnay and pinot noir. Now back in family ownership, the focus is on getting even better quality fruit from the home and grower vineyards. It's then a short walk to the Merricks General Store where a relaxed a la carte lunch in rustic surroundings can be enjoyed.
